Xiaomi hire another former Google executive to its team

Xiaomi The Chinese hardware manufacturer added another former Google executive to its team. Jai Mani was a strategy and analytics associate for Google Play during his days at the search giant.

The new hire will lead Xiaomi’s product team in India. According to Hugo Barra, who has worked with Mr. Mani in Google, he will be the connection between Xiaomi’s rapidly expanding user base in the country and the company’s engineering team in Beijing. Xiaomi will soon set up an engineering team in India as well.

Xiaomi’s latest personnel move is yet another indication that the company is serious about expanding internationally. The company is making provisions to sell 100,000 units a week in India this month.

Earlier this week Sony Mobile and Verizon announced the Xperia Z3v. The device itself is very interesting, being the first Sony Xperia device to feature embedded Qi wireless charging and using a mixture of hardware from the Xperia Z3 (chipset, IP rating) and Xperia Z2 (battery, camera).

The design itself is closer to the Xperia Z2 than the Xperia Z3, although one could even argue that it looks like a cross between the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z, which is no bad thing. At the time of announcement, there weren’t many press pictures. However, we’ve now got you covered below. Unlocked Xperia Z3 Compact available to order in US for $529.99

Xperia Z3 Compact

The Xperia Z3 Compact is now available to buy through the Sony Store US website. The unlocked version of the Xperia Z3 Compact (model number D5803) can be picked up for $529.99, although the handset is currently back-ordered. All four colours of the handset are available (black, white, green and orange). This particular variant supports LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17 and 20, which should ensure support for AT&T and T-Mobile.

Xperia Z3 heading to T-Mobile US from 29 October

T-Mobile USA has announced that the Sony Xperia Z3 will be available from October 29 through stores and online. T-Mobile says that a “Well-Qualified Customer” can pick up the handset for no upfront payment and $26.25 a month on a two-year contract.

The handset will also be available to pre-order from 15 October 2014, which means it could end up being delivered prior to the national launch. Unlike the Xperia Z3v for Verizon, this T-Mobile Xperia Z3 model is the same version as released globally, albeit with support for T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE network. “Space” theme for AR effect app released

Sony Mobile has added a Space theme for the “AR effect” app. As the name suggests the new theme creates a planetary wonderland, complete with astronauts, satellites and aliens. As with the other “AR effect” themes, you can take pictures in these scenes as well as record video. Make sure you update the AR effect theme to version 3.1.1 or higher to install this theme. You can find the AR effect Space theme on the Google Play Store.
